Effective Civic Action, Community Service, and Development -- Filmclips as Great Informational Resources
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

G'Day All --

On-line filmclips are becoming great informational resources for learning about effective civic action, community service, and development throughout the world.

As many TIGers are aware, for the past few weeks an effort has been made to begin collecting a random sampling of such clips, and to include them as "clickable" content in posts to this Blog.

It turns out that a technical problem arises when a lot of "high bandwidth" material is embedded in a series of blog posts.  When the main blog site is accessed, the massive accumulated content will tend to slow down your computer, freeze your screen, and/or crash your browser.  A "bad news bummer" situation, for sure !!

For those who are interested, there is a "fix" for this problem that will work for the time-being, at least -- or maybe it will even be satisfactory as a long-term solution.

When the posts in question can be accessed *individually* (i.e., one at a time) -- rather than in a "long string," as happens when the main blog site is opened -- the problem of computer "freeze-up" doesn't seem to occur.

So, Voila !! the "fix" can be accomplished by placing links to each individual post on a web page where interested folks can pull them up one at a time.  >>>  Note: For this remedy to work properly, you computer must not have any screens that remain open to this Blog, as explained below.

If you would like to take a look at the way this solution has been carried out, you will need to copy the links shown below, and then access them after you have departed from this Blog by either:  (1) returning to the TIG Home Page, or by (2) logging out of TIG altogether.  (This is necessary because the "sluggish performance problem" seems to persist as long as you are trying to pull up the individual post sites at the same time that your computer continues to have any connection to this "complete" Blog.)

From the main web site of The Civic Action Free University, at:

http://www.tcafu.net

... on the "Site Contents and Instant Access" panel near the top of the page, you can click on Item 3., "International Civic Action, Community Service, and Development Film Clip Collection."

Or, you can go to that section directly by clicking on the following link:

http://www.angelfire.com/ca4/yourturf/civactnet.htm#FilmClips

In addition to the "serious" filmclips, you will see one or two that contain great music or other pleasant entertainment.  These have been included simply for "change of pace" purposes.

But the main point is that the "development" filmclips might prove useful to yourself -- and/or to your friends and associates -- for gaining knowledge and insights about effective civic action, community service, and development efforts in various parts of the world.

I hope you will find this material to be useful.  If you have questions or I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day !!
Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

G'Day All --

This year's Saint Patrick's Day greeting looks pretty much like last year's:

http://www.angelfire.com/ca5/yourturf3/saintpatricks.htm

But about three-quarters of the way down the page, you'll find a new section:

"Kilroy's Saint Patrick Kaleidoscope -- Celebrating the Twelve Kegs of Saint Patty's Day"

Sample one or two "kegs" a day, and you'll have about enough material to keep you tappin' your toes for about a week.

Hope you enjoy it !!
