Becoming a "World Class" Development Professional -- Inventorying Your KSAs

G'Day All --

Have you discovered your own special talents and abilities yet, and have you become fully familiar with them ?? That's one of the first important steps along the path to becoming a "World Class" Development Professional.

Next, of course, is to work consistently and diligently to further develop your talents and abilities, and take them to the highest possible levels of knowledge, skill, and excellence. Try to make use of every opportunity available, and strive to be the best you can. Remember that if you want to to be "World Class" you will be competing against the best in the business !!

During this process, try to become familiar with all of the different categories of vocational and professional specialization in development work. This is important so you can begin matching your skills and abilities against the range of available types of work -- with the objective of finding those that are best suited to what you have to offer, and enabling you to choose the types of work that you will find most interesting, enjoyable and fulfilling.

As you may already know "KSAs" is the abbreviation commonly used today for "Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities." As suggested above, "World Class" Development Professionals are normally people who have worked as hard as olympic athletes to develop and sharpen their KSAs to very high levels. At the same time, they've thorougly familiarized themselves with the full range of available jobs and opportunities, and then attempted to achieve the best match between their KSAs and the specific types of Development Professional areas of specialization in which they'll be happiest and also able to make the most significant contributions.

Much of this, of course, is just common sense. But I hope the above comments may be helpful to you in identifying and maximizing your own KSAs, and then matching them up in the best way possible with the vocational and professional opportunities that are available.

If you have questions or comments, please let me know.

Best wishes, Dave Matthews

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

G'Day All --

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in all of the world's languages -- although I'm confident that most TIG members know this document is available on the web, here's the URL for the benefit of anyone who hasn't encountered it previously:

Universal Declaration of Human Rights in All Languages

I hope you'll find it useful and/or of interest.

Problems and Pitfalls of Development -- Your 23 Minute Ph.D. Curriculum

G'Day All --

Several TIG members have included interesting and informative quotations of various kinds in their Profiles, Updates, Groups, or other contributions.  Thanks for sharing what are usually some very worthwhile "gems" of wit and/or wisdom !!

The Civic Action Free University's "Disclaimer" Page has likewise been used to gather enlightening observations and bits of information concerning the various kinds of problems and pitfalls that may often be encountered in domestic or international development work.

Although I refer to the collection as a "23 Minute Ph.D. Curriculum," it is by no means complete -- so if you have any additional items you would like to recommend, you're cordially invited to do so.

Check it out and see what you think, at:

I hope you'll find the material to be informative and/or useful.  If you have questions or comments, please let me know.

Dear TakingITGlobal Team: Thanks for a "Dynamite" Web Site and Set of Programs !!

G'Day All --

When I joined TakingITGlobal a few weeks ago, I sent the following note of introduction to TIG's "Info" and "Member Services" e-mail addresses -- but the message bounced for some reason.  Don't know whether there's a "bug" in the system, but since the effort failed on two different occasions, I decided to simply post the message as an Update:

TO:

memberservices@takingitglobal.org
info@takingitglobal.org

Dear TakingITGlobal Team:

Thanks very much for your "Dynamite" web site and set of programs !!

If you review my newly established TakingITGlobal Profile (civact6) and Project Description (The Civic Action Free University), you will see that there are some significant similarities in our respective efforts.

From my point of view, given the immense challenges of trying to make the world a better place, there is more than enough work for us all -- even in areas where we may be similarly engaged.

Hoping to assist in maximizing exposure of TakingItGlobal on the Web (unless you have any objection), I anticipate including links to your web site -- or appropriate parts of it -- in some or all of the following components of The Civic Action Free University:

01.  The International Training and Service Teams' Forum
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ca4ytinternationalservice/

02.  The World Educational Civic Action Network
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/worldeducationalcivicactionnet/

03.  Students in Civic Action and Community Service
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ca4ytstudentsincivicaction/

04.  International Students' Civic Action Free University Network
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iscafun/

05.  In the links for each Region of the World, as shown on the World Educational Civic Action Network ("WE-CAN") web page, at:
http://www.angelfire.com/ca4/yourturf/worldcivactnet01.htm

06.  Eventually, as time permits, I may be able to insert TakingItGlobal links for each nation, respectively, in the WE-CAN Nation/Territory Links, including:
Afghanistan - to - Ecuador
Egypt - to - Macedonia Republic
Madagascar - to - Scotland
Senegal - to - Zimbabwe

07.  In case its of interest, let me invite you to consider whether you might like to add a "Civic Action Free University Associated On-Line Campus" to the TakingItGlobal web site. The procedure for doing so is outlined at:
http://www.angelfire.com/ca4/yourturf/civactnet.htm#Associated

I hope that some or all of activities described above will meet with your approval.  Please consider me "at your service" to further discuss all possible ways that TakingItGlobal and The Civic Action Free University may be able to work together in mutually suppotive ways.

Again, thanks very much for your outstanding program and web site, and for the opportunity to place my Project, Group, and Profile there !!

Best wishes, Dave Matthews

"Your Mission, If You Choose to Accept It"

************************

G'Day All --

Here's a hypothetical scenario that's been used succssfully to stimulate lively discussion and debate in training seminars.

"Your Mission, If You Choose to Accept It"

Try giving it a whirl.  If it interests you -- and/or any organization(s) you're working with -- you are welcome to use it.

I'd be glad to learn about any experiences you have with this material.  Likewise, if you have questions or comments, please let me know.

Best wishes, Dave Matthews
